Lighting the big trees on Loudonville lots
Mature trees are what make a Loudonville lot, and they're the best thing to light. By December the oaks and maples are bare, so lights wrapped up the trunk and out along the first big limbs show clearly from the road. Big spruces and pines take mini lights worked through the outer branches.
Don't try to wrap everything. On a deep lot, two or three lit trees near the street do more than a dozen behind the house. Anything above the lower limbs is lift work, which changes the price and the schedule. More on tree wrapping Christmas lights.
Roofline lights that carry from Route 9 and the side streets
When a house sits far back from the road, mini lights along the gutter disappear. C9 bulbs read at a distance, which is why they suit a Loudonville roofline. Larger homes also bring more roof: multiple gables, dormers, steep pitches and tall sections that need a lift.
The practical answer is to light the roofline the street can see, plus the entry, and skip the back and sides. Garland and a lit wreath on the front door give the eye somewhere to land at the end of a long driveway. You get most of the effect for a fraction of the linear feet. Our roofline Christmas lights page covers C9 spacing, clips and colors.
Long driveways, walkway lights and the snow
A long driveway is a Loudonville feature worth lighting: stake lights along the edges, a lit walkway to the front door, or wrapped posts at the entrance. Two things matter here.
Stakes need ground that isn't frozen yet, which is one more reason installs happen in early November. And the plow will find anything set at the edge of the drive. Keep stakes a couple of feet back from where snow gets pushed, and tell whoever plows your driveway that they're there.
Power for Christmas lights across a big lot
Outlets on the house are a long way from the trees by the road. That means outdoor-rated extension cord runs across the lawn, which end up under snow for most of the season. Ask the installer how they plan to power the front trees, how many outdoor GFCI outlets the design needs, and whether everything can run on one or two timers so you're not walking the property at dusk.
If you'd rather not deal with any of it, the whole job, install through January takedown, can be quoted at once. Start with the free quote form, or compare notes with neighbors closer in on the Albany and Latham pages.
