Delmar Christmas lights near Delaware Avenue and the Four Corners
The older neighborhoods around the Four Corners and along Delaware Avenue have houses closer to the street, sidewalks out front and big street trees. That changes the plan. People walk past these houses, so the details at eye level count as much as the roofline: a lit wreath on the door, garland on the porch rail, wrapped shrubs along the front walk.
These are also older roofs and older gutters. A good installer clips lights to the gutter lip or under the shingles and never nails into trim, which matters on a house with original woodwork. On a colonial or cape with front dormers, the main roofline plus the dormers is usually enough. The mature maples on the tree lawn are tempting, but check whether a tree is yours before anyone wraps it.
Newer Bethlehem subdivisions: long rooflines, young trees
Farther from Delaware Avenue, the newer subdivisions bring a different house: two stories, an attached garage facing the street and a long, continuous roofline. Run C9s across the main roof and the garage, and the house reads as one shape from the road. Aluminum gutters on newer houses take clip-on lights easily, so the roofline is usually the quickest part of the job.
The trees are younger here, which helps. A small ornamental or a young maple can be wrapped trunk to tip from the ground, so a lit front yard costs far less ladder time than it would in the older part of town.
Glenmont and Selkirk holiday lighting
Glenmont, south along Route 9W, has plenty of subdivisions where the newer-subdivision plan above fits. Selkirk, farther south, is more rural. Lots are bigger, houses sit farther back and outlets are a long way from the trees by the road. On those properties, put C9s on the roofline and light one or two trees near the road rather than spreading lights thin across an acre.
Permanent lights or seasonal clips in Delmar
If you plan to stay in your Delmar house for years, that's the case for permanent Christmas lights: a track under the eaves, app-controlled LEDs, warm white most of the year and colors for the holidays. On an older house, ask how the track attaches to the fascia and what condition the trim needs to be in. In a newer subdivision, check HOA approval first.
If you'd rather keep it seasonal, the lights come down in January. Our Christmas light removal page covers takedown. For neighbors to the west, see Slingerlands; for the city, see Albany. Or go straight to the free quote form.
